# Video, image or text: which ad formats does a rival favour?

Before you brief a designer or a video editor, it helps to know what the competition actually ships. If a rival runs mostly video, matching them with text ads may still work, but you should choose that on purpose.

In the ADSoar library you can filter ads by media type (video, image or text), and the format distribution chart shows the mix at a glance.

Some readings:

- **Mostly text:** the brand is likely search-led and testing copy fast.
- **A rising share of video:** they have found an angle worth producing for.
- **Image-heavy in one region only:** a local test, or a market where their creative team has more budget.

Pair the format view with the ad status filter. Formats that stay active for a long time are the ones that earn their place.
